FOOD! Every living thing needs it to sustain life. But humans take it to a whole different level! Recipes: Mixing, combining different food (aka: ingredients) to create “new” food. In the process, we don’t just ingest it to survive; we get to EXPERIENCE it! And, food brings people together, starting with the family unit and branching outward from there: friends, coworkers, communities, etc. It even exposes us to different cultures, expanding our knowledge about the world in which we live.

Fortunately, with the written word, we do not have to rely on information passed down from generation to generation. Thus, recipes allow us to replicate a dish consistently. Sure, liberties are taken to add a unique flare from time to time. But you can reproduce the same dish that your mother or grandmother did decades before.

Below, you will find some random recipes that have survived several generations in my family.

Chicken Enchilada Casserole is so delicious and so easy to make. It combines nine ingredients with a prep time under 30 minutes and a cook time of about 30 minutes. This is good off of the plate or rolled up in a tortilla and eaten like a burrito. And, it reheats well, too, for left-overs the next day. This Chicken Enchilada Casserole is one of my favorites.

Glazed Wild Salmon Fillets. A well prepared salmon fillet can invoke feeling like you are dining in a five-star restaurant, even if you’re not! Being able to make a dish so good without paying a five-star restaurant price feels even better! Try this recipe for Glazed Wild Salmon Fillets.

Hard-Boiled Egg Casserole does not have fancy ingredients. Just simple, wholesome ingredients that make a delicious meal. Add some variety to your home-cooked meals with this yummy concoction.

Sauerbraten is a very old, traditional German dish. Many regard it as a national dish of Germany. The name means sour roast. Historically, the meat used is usually the tougher cuts of beef, although several other kinds of meats have been used (lamb, pork, mutton, even horse). As a result, the meat is heavily marinated in a wine or vinegar mixture over the course of 5-10 days before cooking. However, here is a six-ingredient recipe for Quick-n-Easy Sauerbraten.

Slow-Cooker Recipes: Here you will find different recipes using a slow-cooker. They are separated out from the other recipes to create this subcategory. Using a slow-cooker is a very convenient way of meal creation for busy evenings and lazy mornings. Although there are almost endless possibilities, here you will find some tried and true (and favorite) Slow-Cooker Recipes.
